PHILADELPHIA, PA (October 29) - GW used a balanced offensive attack and superior blocking to defeat La Salle, 21-19, 15-8, 15-10 in an Atlantic 10 Conference match Friday at Tom Gola Arena in Philadelphia. Three Colonials recorded double- figure kills led by senior Gabriela Mojska's 12 kills and 10 each from juniors Tracee Brown and Julie Jahnke to power the Colonials past the Explorers. The victory extended GW's current winning streaks to four matches and 12 games and keeps them in the hunt for a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament.
The 21 points in game one was the most scored by a GW team in more than 22 years when the Colonials needed 23 points to get past William & Mary, 23-21, in 1977.
GW's defense was outstanding at the net as they combined to block 18 Explorer attacks led by Jahnke's eight block assists and Brown's three block solos. As a team, GW outblocked La Salle, 18-7 and had a 49-38 advantage in digs led by Brown's 13.
La Salle (13-13, 1-9 A-10) was led by Melissa Hodge's 15 kills and Kristin Russo's 10 digs.
GW (13-7, 8-4 A-10) remains in the "City of Brotherly Love" to face defending A-10 tournament champion Temple Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Earlier this season, GW lost to the Owls, 3-1 on Sept. 24 at Smith Center.
