Volleyball Sweeps Rhode Island, 3-0

WASHINGTON, DC (October 16) - The George Washington University volleyball team got a match-high 18 kills and 13 digs from senior outside hitter Gabriela Mojska as it swept the University of Rhode Island, 15-10, 15-8, 15-12, in a 1-hour, 22-minute match Saturday night at Smith Center.
GW improved to 10-7 overall, 5-4 in the A-10 while URI fell to 10-6, 6-3.
Game one featured four ties, the last at 7-7, before GW pulled away to score eight of the final 10 points. URI committed 13 attack errors in game two enabling the Colonials to pull away from another 7-7 tie to win 15-8. GW took a 5-1 lead in game three before the Rams battled back to tie the score at 5-5 and again at 8-8 before GW took charge at the net blocking three Rhode Island attacks down the stretch. Juniors Renee Arnold (11 kills) and Julie Jahnke (10 kills) played a major role in the Colonials' offensive attack.
The Rams were led by Christie Wilson's 16 kills and nine kills by Nicole Noya.
The Colonials rebounded from a tough five-game loss to Massachusetts Friday at home while the Rams suffered their second straight three-game loss after falling at Virginia Tech Friday in Blacksburg.
GW next hosts Fordham and Duquesne Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22-23, while Rhode Island travels to Dayton and Xavier next weekend.
