Volleyball Splits A-10 Matches In Ohio

DAYTON, OH (Oct. 10, 1999) -- GW got a match-high 21 kills from senior Gabriela Mojska and 12 kills from junior Julie Jahnke as the Colonials defeated Xavier, 3-2 (3-15, 15-10, 15-6, 4-15, 15-11) Friday in Cincinnati. The Colonials continued to Dayton where they fell to the Flyers, 1-3 (9-15, 15-9, 8-15, 5-15) on Saturday.
In Friday's victory, GW's Mojska (21 kills, 12 digs) and junior Jill Levey (44 assists, 19 digs) posted double-doubles for the match. Junior Suzana Manole had a match-high 22 digs while Renee Arnold contributed 12 digs in the winning effort. In the decisive fifth game, GW hit .579 as a team with 11 kills, no errors in 19 attempts.
Xavier (12-5, 4-3 A-10) was led by Beth Osterday's 15 kills and 17 digs.
Saturday at Dayton, GW rebounded from a 15-9 setback in game one to execute a near-flawless 15-9 victory in game two while hitting .444 with 23 kills with just three errors in 45 attacks.
Junior Tracee Brown was the hitting star for the Colonials Saturday with 11 kills while committing just one error in 33 swings for a ,303 percentage. She also had a team-high 13 digs, a block solo and five block assists. Arnold (15 kills) and Brown were two of four Colonials with double-figure kills including Mojska and Jahnke who put down 12 kills each.
Dayton (9-8, 5-3 A-10) was led by Xinxin Zhang's 18 kills and 14 digs.
GW (9-6, 4-3 A-10) returns to Smith Center to host Massachusetts Friday at 7:00 pm followed by a 5:30 match on Saturday against Rhode Island.
