Micro-internships are short-term virtual experiences that last 40 or 80 hours that can be spread out over a 1-7 week span (July 5-August 21) and are similar to those given to new hires or interns.
These projects can be in any functional area (e.g., communications, writing/editing, marketing, research, analysis) in any industry (e.g. business, education, entertainment/media, non-profit, law, public sector) and should be an opportunity for student-athletes to grow their skills, explore career paths, and build their networks.
We’re asking you, our GW Athletics Alumni to provide these opportunities. If you have a project in mind, please complete this Google Form to indicate your interest and needs.
Alumni Expectations:
- Because of the many demands on both the alumnus and the students, this is designed to be a short-term, yet meaningful exchange.
- Be clear about your expectations. It can be difficult for students to understand what you want them to accomplish in short-term/remote work projects. Offer examples, input and guidance so work can be completed in the way you are expecting.
- Be realistic about the number of hours required to complete your project. Check-in often to see if your student has questions or is experiencing challenges.
- Give feedback so students know they are on the right track, prior to the conclusion of the 40 or 80 hour project period.
