Jeanne Gengler Swiacki is in her first year as head coach of the women's tennis team at GW. Gengler joins GW with over 30 years of tennis experience. As a promising junior player she trained under the legendary Harry Hopman in Port Washington, NY. A graduate of Colgate University, she won four New York state team titles, compiled a 31-1 singles record and earned two state doubles titles. After college she competed throughout Europe, and later coached at the prestigious Bishop's School in La Jolla, CA, and at Princeton University. Since moving to Washington in 1994, Gengler and her team on two World Team Tennis Open Division national titles. Gengler also brings to the GW a knowledge of the business and finance of collegiate and professional sport. As Manager of Marketing for SportsChannel, she worked closely with teams such as the N.Y. Mets and Yankees, the National Hockey League, Big East Conference basketball and the Association of Tennis Professionals. Gengler holds a Cetificate of Financial Planning. Gengler has a family history rich in sport. Her sisters Margie and Louise both played No. 1 singles at Princeton University. Margie later married tennis great Stan Smith. Sister Nancy captured the intercollegiate squash title while at Princeton, and younger sister Marion was an all-American at William & Mary. Gengler's husband Bill Swiacki was drafted in football and baseball out of Amherst College. His father Bill Swiacki played for the N.Y. Giants and Detroit Lions football teams. Gengler and her husband Bill reside in Great Falls, VA, with their one year old son, Joseph. |
