George Washington University Athletics
The career development model is a four stage process that focuses on career exploration, career preparation, gaining career experience, and transition. The goals of the program include determining an individuals’ strengths, developing core career documents, gaining internship experience, and best preparing for life after college.
First Year Programming
- Complete CliftonStrengths and review assessment at a workshop or with a Career Exploration Coach
- Attend resume and cover letter workshop
- Introduction to the Professional Competencies
- How to Get Experience: Maximizing LinkedIn and Industry Coaches
- How to Network Workshop
- Attend the Student-Athlete Career Networking Forum (Spring)
- Participate in the mentoring program
- Competency Based Interviewing Workshop

- Attend the Student-Athlete Career Networking Forum (Spring)
- Continue to participate in the mentoring program
- Attend a Job Search Kick Off or industry specific Networking Event

Mentoring Program
The GW Athletics mentorship program pairs athletics alumni with current junior and senior student-athletes. Through a one-on-one relationship, mentors are asked to help develop skill sets of student-athletes looking to enter in to the work force.
Student-Athlete Career Networking Forum
The Student Athlete Networking Forum is a career event for student-athletes held in the Spring. The event provides student-athletes the opportunity to network with alumni and potential employers. The event consists of a panel discussion and networking session.
Financial Literacy
Twice a year, GW Athletics hosts programs for student-athletes and staff to learn more about financial literacy.
Student-Athlete Interview Initiative
Created by GW student-athletes, for student-athletes, the Student-Athlete Interview Initiative highlights former GW student-athletes as they share about their own interview experiences in their respective fields. From finance and accounting, to prepping for graduate school, these videos are valuable resources for all.
