WASHINGTON – GW softball ended its stay at the Charge on Classic with a 2-1 win over Florida A&M on Sunday afternoon, beating the Rattlers for the second time in three days. GW improved to 9-5 overall with its home opener and the start of A-10 Conference play approaching next weekend.
It took GW all of three batters to take the lead in the rematch vs. FAMU, as Paige Hayward doubled in the game's third at-bat to score Ashley Corpuz, who had reached on a leadoff walk.
The Revolutionaries lead held until the fifth thanks in-part to a gritty performance by Sophia Torreso in the circle. Torreso went the distance on Sunday and held the Rattlers blank until their lone score in the fifth inning. Torreso struck out seven batters and allowed only three hits as she threw her first complete game of 2026.
After FAMU knotted the game at 1-1 in the fifth, GW retook the lead with the eventual game-winner on an RBI groundout from Emma Fales in the sixth.
Corpuz, Cadence Gilliland, Hayward and Katie Hendrickson had GW's four hits, while Corpuz and Ruby drew the Revolutionaries' pair of walks. The Revolutionaries' four hits are the least amount of hits in a win for GW this season.
The Revolutionaries return to DC with A-10 softball in their sights. GW hosts the reigning A-10 Champion Saint Louis Billikens on Saturday (12:00 p.m. doubleheader) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.) at the GW Softball Field, with all three games streaming on ESPN+.
