Student-athletes at the George Washington University continue to excel academically, evidenced today by data released as part of the NCAA's Academic Progress Report (APR).
15 GW programs posted perfect single year APR scores of 1,000: baseball, women's basketball, women's cross country, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rowing, women's soccer, softball, women's swimming & diving, tennis, women's indoor and outdoor track, volleyball, and water polo. Four teams -- rowing, women's swimming & diving, tennis, and water polo -- posted a multi-year rate of 1,000 for the third-consecutive year. The multi-year APR is the average of an athletic program's single year APR scores over the last four years.
This year's multi-year APR averaged single year scores from the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years. 13 GW programs enjoyed a multi-year APR greater than 990:Â baseball, women's cross country, gymnastics, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, women's swimming & diving, tennis, women's indoor and outdoor track, volleyball and water polo. All 20Â Revolutionaries teams recorded multi-year APR scores that far exceed the 930 threshold required by the NCAA for postseason participation.
"GW Revs student-athletes continue to achieve excellence in the classroom," said Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Lipitz. "We're incredibly proud of their efforts, which include a 94% graduation rate and cumulative GPA of 3.39."
The NCAA implemented the APR in 2004 to provide a more real-time measurement of academic success than graduation rates offer. The team-based metric accounts for the eligibility and retention of scholarship student-athletes by awarding one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating.Â
