WEIRTON, W. Va. - The EAGL office announced on Wednesday morning that GW senior Rachel Katz was selected as the league's Co-Specialist of the Week, while first-year Lola Montevago earned the league's Rookie Specialist of the Week selection. The honors came after GW's victories at both the Towson Invitational and at Temple, facing all four EAGL opponents over the past weekend. This is the second weekly honor for both GW gymnasts in 2025.
Katz was chosen for Specialist of the Week after consistently performing on both vault and bars for the Buff & Blue. Katz led GW on vault Friday evening alongside teammate Delaney DeHaan, posting a 9.850 and earning a 9.750 on Sunday. On bars, the senior captain earned a 9.625 on Friday evening before improving to a 9.775 on Sunday to contribute to a season-high 49.075 for the GW Revs on bars.
Montevago competed in two of GW's four rotations all weekend on her way to being named Rookie Specialist of the Week. Montevago's top performance on Sunday came on uneven bars, where she won the event with a new program-best and nearly perfect 9.975. The first-year also competed well on the beam, earning a new personal-best 9.850 on Sunday. Montevago also had a strong showing at Friday's invitational, earning consistent scores on both bars (9.850) and beam (9.750).
The Revolutionaries will enjoy a bye week before returning home on February 16, welcoming Cornell, UW La-Crosse and Ursinus to the Smith Center. The meet will also remember late GW Gymnastics alumna Alex DeMoura through a rip current awareness program during the competition. A new leotard design will also be debuted at the meet.
