HAMPTON, Va. - The George Washington University men's & women's swimming and diving teams finished day two of the Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday, assuming leads on both the men's and women's sides.
After two days, the men are in front with 342 points, almost double the next closest team (George Mason with 177). The women lead with 256 points, but are in a tight race with Richmond, who follow behind with 228.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
-
Connor Rodgers defended his 200-yard IM title from last season, going faster than his own conference record to claim gold and set a new conference mark (1:44.24). Ben Sosnowski also swam well in the 200-yard IM final and earned the bronze medal (1:47.13).
-
After Elliott Irwin broke the conference meet record in prelims of the 50-yard freestyle (19.53), he came back for the finals swim and came in second place (19.64). The winner of the race, La Salle's Felix Jedbratt, now holds the conference overall and meet record after going 19.20 in the finals. Despite the second-place finish, GW earned big points in the event with five swimmers in the A-final (2nd: Irwin; 4th: Wood; 6th: Sivaramakrishnan; 7th: Nagy; 8th: Thomas).
-
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay, made up of Irwin, Holden Thomas, Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan and AJ Wood, claimed the gold medal to close out Thursday's competition (1:18.42).
-
Daniel Choi picked up a silver medal in the 500-yard freestyle (4:23.11) as he continued to pace GW's distance swimmers.

Ben Bradley claimed the bronze medal in the 1-meter dive with a personal-best 309.00.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
-

Topolewski, who was the 2023 500-yard freestyle champion, was dethroned by a teammate last season, but took back the title by over 1.50 seconds on Thursday. Colleen MacWilliams earned the bronze medal in the event (4:51.10).
-
Moriah Freitas was just .01 off the GW record when she completed her bronze medal swim in the 50-yard freestyle (22.92).
-
The women's 200-yard freestyle relay, swam by Freitas, Chloe Hernandez, Natalie Sens and Jules Fifer, wrapped day two with a silver medal (1:30.79).
