WASHINGTON – Head Coach Jeremy Williams and the George Washington women's soccer team announced the addition of Sophia Broz ahead of the 2024 season. Broz, a transfer from the University of Miami, played under Williams and current GW assistant coaches Alan Fread and Kayley Sullivan while with the Hurricanes.
"We're thrilled to have Sophia joining us this fall," said Williams. "Her approach to training, development as a player and commitment in the classroom embodies exactly what we want our culture to be here at GW. She will be a great fit for what we want to achieve."
A native of Matthews, N.C., Broz joins GW as a sophomore after appearing in six matches with Miami in 2023. She logged a season-high 45 minutes against fellow ACC-foe Clemson on Sept. 21st, while also logging 40+ minutes on Oct. 8th against Notre Dame (41).
"I'm super excited to be a part of the future of GW women's soccer," said Broz. "The incredible coaching staff, the ability to be a force in the Atlantic 10 Conference and the high academic standards of the university made GW the perfect fit for me."
Prior her first collegiate season, Broz was a three-year letterwinner at Providence High School. As a senior, she was named the Southwestern 4A Region Player of the Year and earned Providence's Female Athlete of the Year award after recording nine goals and 21 assists in her final high school season. On the club front, Broz led Charlotte Soccer Academy to the 2023 ECNL Conference Title, while also earning a selection into the Clash of Carolinas All-Star Game.
