Varsity 8 Tops Mason Invite, GW Earns Five Podium Finishes

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -Â GW women's rowing continued its strong spring season with five podium finishes at the George Mason Invite on Sunday afternoon at Sandy Run Regional Park.Â
The Buff & Blue's Varisty 8, the reigning A-10 Boat of the Week, provided the highlight by cruising past the competition, winning its morning heat by nearly 10 seconds. GW then came back in the afternoon with an even faster time of 6:49.1 to win the grand final by nine seconds over Bucknell.
All five of GW's boats earned top-three finishes in the Grand Finals. The 2V8 and 3V8 both placed second in their races while the V4 and 2V4 finished third.Â
GW is off for the next two weeks before returning to action for its final regular-season event, the Eastern Springs on May 5 in Worcester, Mass.
