CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The George Washington men's and women's track teams competed at the Virginia Challenge on Friday, knocking off two school records and setting six PRs in the process.
Graduate student Rachel Horowitz started things off with a new school record in the 400m, tallying a time of 56.17 in GW's first event of the day. Horowitz broke her own record time of 57.76 set at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational earlier this season. Along with Horowitz, Sarah Mitchell also etched her name into the record book, tallying a 16:42.57 in the 5000m. Mitchell's time broke the previous benchmark by nearly five seconds, a 16:47.30 set by Miranda DiBiaso during the 2016-17 season. The time also shattered Mitchell's previous PR in the event by over 17 seconds. Mitchell finished in fourth out of 42 runners in the event.
Along with Mitchell in the 5000m, Olivia Syftestad and Una Boylan also competed for GW. Syftestad recorded a mark of 17:20.54 to place 20th, breaking her own PR. Boylan finished just behind her, recording 24th with a mark of 17:27.03. This also set a new PR for Boylan.
On the men's side, Michael Bohlke took home gold in the 5000m with a PR time of 14:06.87. Behind Bohlke was Kevin Conlon who recorded a 14:15.41 for fourth place. Conlon's time was also a new PR as well. Rounding out GW's performance in the 5000m was Jacob Heredia with a PR time of 14:25.40. Heredia placed eighth out of the 30-runner field.
