Track Breaks More Records at Hopkins/Loyola Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. – The George Washington men's and women's track teams competed at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Saturday, breaking three school records and posting nine new PRs in an action-packed day of races.
Kamryn Holness headlined GW's day by breaking the 100m and 400m hurdle records. Holness, who previously set both record times earlier this season, tallied a 15.72 in the 100m hurdles and a 1:08.38 in the 400m hurdles.
Along with Holness, Rachel Horowitz broke the program record in the 100m dash with a 12.16. Horowitz placed second in the event and edged the previous program benchmark of 12.89 set by Emma Benzinger in 2022-23.
On the men's side, Colin Funk tallied GW's lone event win of the day with a first-place time of 1:53.40 in the 800m. The time set a new personal best and beat out a field of 63 runners. The Buff & Blue also had a solid showing in the men's 5000m, recording two of the top three finishers in the event. Lucas Brown raced to a second-place finish with a PR time of 14:53.23, while Pierce Kapustka recorded third with a mark of 14:59.32 in his event debut.
Austin Brotemarkle finished with a PR in the 1500m, tallying a time of 3:56.12 for third, while Tobias Janssen also set a PR time in the same race with a 4:08.61. On the women's side of the 1500m, Lola Dinneen recorded fifth with a PR of 4:38.46, while Julia Shanes also clocked a new best time of 4:50.36.
Other notable PRs for GW included Ashley Robinson with a 19:01.95 in the 5000m, Janae Russell with a 12.64 in the 100m and Erin Wallwork with a 2:35.43 in the 800m.
GW returns to action next weekend for the Penn Relays. The meet will be GW's final tune up before competing in the Atlantic 10 Championships from May 4-5. Follow GWsports.com for the latest info on upcoming meets.
