Heffley goes 4-4 with 4 singles
DAVIS, Calif. -Â The George Washington softball team lost in the series opener at UC Davis on Saturday by a final score of 6-2. The Revolutionaries drop to 7-11 on the season ahead of game two against the Aggies tomorrow.
The Revolutionaries had action on the basepaths in each of the first three innings, but the homeside kept GDUB off the board early while cracking into the score themselves. The Aggies opened up the scoring on an RBI groundout in the second inning before adding three runs in the third and another two in the fourth to assume a 6-0 lead.
GW chipped away in the fifth inning, loading the bases and plating two runs. Alena Ramirez drove the first run in on a sacrifice fly before Maggie Greco hit an RBI single to cut the score to 6-2, after which neither team scored again.
Allison Heffley was the highlight for the Revolutionaries in the series opener, going a perfect 4-4 at the plate with four singles. GW used three arms - Cece Smith, Rose Cano and Sophia Torreso, who struck out two and limited the Aggies to seven hits but allowed six runs (five earned).
GW returns back to La Rue Field tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) for game two of the three-game series.
