WASHINGTON - The George Washington tennis team officially welcomed Karen Verduzco to the program on Friday. Verduzco, hailing from Jalisco, Mexico, will join the roster in Foggy Bottom in the fall of 2024.
"I chose GW because Coach George is a great coach, who from the first moment I met him, I wanted to join his team." Veduzco said. "I know he can keep developing me into the player I want to become and could become. GW will bring me the opportunity to improve my knowledge and give me the necessary tools for my future. It's academically one of the best universities that will challenge me."
Verduzco will arrive in Foggy Bottom with a distinguished resume, which includes most recently winning the doubles championship at an ITF J30 Tournament. Her accomplishments also include an eighth-place finish representing Mexico at the Billie Jean King Cup Juniors, a championship at Master COTECC and representing Mexico at a World Cup Qualification in Montreal.Â
"I'm excited to introduce Karen, who comes from Mexico." said Head Coach George Rodriguez. "She brings a high-level of experience and is extremely talented. Karen has a high tennis IQ on court. She knows how to construct points effectively and is an all-court player. Karen has some of the best volleys I've seen and amazing hands at the net. She's a 4.0 student and brings a tremendous blue collar work ethic that will be a great fit to our team culture. I'm excited to see her growth and will contribute to our team immediately."
"At GW, I will be surrounded by good people that will make me a better person. I know I will live the best four years of my life playing the sport I love and study the curriculum that I always wanted. I feel I will be able to have the tools and people around me to succeed." said Verduzco.
