Women's Rowing Wins George's Cup, Class of 1998 Cup

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -Â In its opening regatta of the spring campaign, GW women's rowing defended its titles against local foes George Mason and Georgetown in the annual George's Cup and Class of 1998 Cup.
The Buff & Blue won by open water in the Varsity 8 with a time of 6:49.1, more than eight seconds better than second-place Georgetown. The win gave GW the Class of 1998 Cup, contested annually between the George Washington and Georgetown V8, for the 11th time in 20 matchups.
The Revolutionaries finished in second to Georgetown in the 2V8 and 3V8, creating a tie in the overall points standings, but the Buff & Blue retained the George's Cup by virtue of its victory in the top boat. GW has now won eight of the 13 George's Cups.
Races were also contested in the V4 and 2V4 with GW placing second behind Georgetown in each race.
GW will return to action on Saturday at the Doc Hosea Invitational in Camden, N.J.
