WASHINGTON - GW gymnastics earned a pair of year-end major awards from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League with Anneliese Silverman being named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Kendall Whitman earning Senior Gymnast of the Year honors.
Silverman becomes the fourth Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winner in program history, joining Anna Warhol (2020, 2021) and Jillian Winstanley (2017). She currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA while studying for her Master's in Physical Activity in Public Health.
In competition, the co-captain has tallied nine top-five finishes in the all-around this season, including a victory at LIU on Feb. 4. The accolade adds to Silverman's four All-EAGL selections, including first team honors on beam (9.835), floor (9.865) and all-around (39.165) and second team on vault (9.820).
Whitman gives GW back-to-back Senior Gymnasts of the Year, following Deja Chambliss last year, and the third in program history with Cami Drouine-Allaire in 2018. The co-captain tallied 10 event victories this season including six in vault, three in all-around, and one in floor. She helped lead GW to its program-record mark of 197.200 on March 15 at Towson with a 39.425 (1st) in all-around and a 9.975 (1st) in floor.
The two-time NCAA individual qualifier led the Buff & Blue with four All-EAGL selections this year, including First Team honors on vault (9.865), beam (9.840), floor (a league-high 9.930) and in the all-around (39.225).
