Softball Returns Home to Challenge UMES

WASHINGTON - The George Washington University softball team returns home for a seven-game homestand, which begins Wednesday as Maryland Eastern Shore visits for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader. Coverage of both games will be available on ESPN+.
WEST COAST SERIES WIN
GW returns from California after challenging and beating UC Davis in the Buff & Blue's first three-game set of the year. GW lost in game one, 6-2, but found its way in games two and three as GW won both games by a combined score of 14-2.
The rookies played a large role for GW in the wins, but it was a pair of Buff & Blue veterans who collected big-time milestones. Alexa Williams drove in the 100th RBI of her career in game two as the Revolutionaries came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 6-2. The next day, Maggie Greco led-off game three with the 100th hit of her career, a single up the middle, which sparked a four-run GW first inning on the way to an 8-0 win.Â
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
UMES is 5-11 to begin the year which includes a 1-3 mark in true road games. The Hawks lost four of five games last weekend at the North Alabama Tournament by a combined score of 53-14 - its win coming in a 9-8 battle vs. Detroit Mercy.
Ameenah Ballenger and Kelsie Ekstrom have inflicted the most damage for the Hawks' offense, combining for over half of UMES' RBI (31/58). Ballenger bats .451 with a 1.335 OPS, four doubles, four triples and three home runs, while Ekstrom hits .381 with a 1.118 OPS and seven doubles. Ballanger is also the Hawks' top arm, with a 4.62 ERA and 2.11 WHIP in 53.0 IP.Â
GW is 2-1 all-time vs. UMES. The programs first met in 2003, when they split games of a doubleheader, and last met at the Cavalier Clash in 2023, when GW won 9-1 in five innings.
