GW gymnastics swept the EAGL Awards this week, the league announced on Wednesday. Senior Kendall Whitman earned the title of EAGL Gymnast of the Week for the second week in a row. Junior Sarah Zois was named EAGL Specialist of the Week, and first-year Brooke Izzo earned EAGL Rookie of the week.
Whitman placed first overall in the all-around at Towson this past Friday with a score of 39.200. She posted a 9.650 on bars, a 9.900 on floor, a 9.875 on vault, and a 9.775 on beam. With her floor score, she tied for second out of all performers in the event, alongside sophomore Kasey Burke. This meet also marked the fourth meet in a row where Whitman has paced the floor rotation among the other GW floor performers.
Zois' 9.925 on vault marks her third career-high score of the season. She had previously set a new career-high on beam with a score of 9.900 at the season opener at UF, as well as a new career-high on floor at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational with a score of 9.875. Her 9.925 score at Towson led to her coming in first out of all performers in the vault event.
Izzo scored a 9.850 on beam in only her second collegiate meet to place first out of all performers. She topped the 9.750 she scored in her collegiate beam debut at the Next Level Podium Challenge on Jan. 20.
The GW gymnastics team will go into a double-meet weekend, and will return to Upper Marlboro, Md. on Friday, Feb. 2 to face off against the host Tigers, Penn and William & Mary at 6 p.m at the ShowPlace Arena. They will then travel to EAGL opponent LIU in Brookville, N.Y., for a dual meet on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m.
