Newly-installed GW Head Women's Soccer Coach Jeremy Williams added to his staff today with the addition of Assistant Coaches Alan Fread and Kayley Sullivan to the Buff & Blue. Both have served previously at George Washington.
Fread returns to George Washington after a stint at Miami, coaching in the powerhouse ACC since 2018. In his time with the Hurricans, he coached Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who now plays professionally for Manchester United. Mellissa Dagenais also turned pro after leaving Miami and Fread's coaching. The former assistant coach at GW was with the program in 2016 and 2017, when the club notched a 21-12-7 (.613) mark and reached the A-10 Tournament in both seasons. He mentored Miranda Horn in net at GW prior to her playing professionally. Before GW, Fread served on the Georgetown men's soccer staff from 2014-15, as a volunteer assistant and video coordinator for a team that reached the NCAA Elite Eight in 2014. He's also done a post at St. Francis (PA), where under his tutelage of the goalkeepers, the team finished eighth nationally in goals against per game.
The State College, Pa., native has multiple United Soccer Coaches diplomas, and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in psychology with a business concentration in 2009.
"Alan brings a wealth of knowledge when it comes to both coaching and developing goalkeepers," said Head Coach Jeremy Williams. "I have seen firsthand his commitment to helping goalkeepers grow. He is familiar with the GW student-athlete and what it takes to be successful here. He will be an integral part in shaping the identity of the program and bringing a level of professionalism to the goalkeeping department."
Joining Williams and Fread in their return to GW is a decorated alumnae of the program, Kayley Sullivan. She was also with the Miami Hurricanes soccer program recently, arriving in Coral Gables prior to the 2022 season after working two years as the Head Coach of Albion Soccer Club in Las Vegas. Her well-traveled, bright and young career also took her to a stint as a volunteer assistant coach for the Stanford Cardinal during its 2019 Women's College Cup Championship. In her time at Stanford, she helped the Cardinal to a 45-2-21 overall mark while going undefeated in league play, en route to consecutive Pac-12 Championships and two-straight College Cup berths in 2018 and 2019. Sullivan was simultaneously acting as the Director of Community Programs for the Mountain View Los Altos Club while in Palo Alto, one of the top clubs in the country. The local product by way of Lorton, Va., returns home after competing for GW from 2009-12, including captaincy as a senior.
"To me it is a no-brainer when you have the ability to bring in a talented coach who also happens to be an alumnae of the school," said Williams. "Kayley's professionalism and attention to detail embodies the direction we want to steer this program towards. The players are going to benefit from her knowledge of the game and commitment to player development."
