Indoor Track Makes Short Trip to Mason Patriot Games
WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's indoor track & field team makes the short drive to local rival George Mason for the Mason Patriot Games. The event has a start time of 10 a.m., with all events housed inside the George Mason Field House.
Last weekend, GW put together a solid showing at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic, seeing five different PRs set by Buff & Blue runners. Leading the way for the Revolutionaries was sophomore Sarah Mitchell, who finished second in the mile with a time of 5:05.02. Behind Mitchell was sophomore Una Boylan, who clocked a personal record time of 5:09.62 for third place. Boylan also set a PR in the 800m dash, recording a 2:25.72 for eighth. Rounding out GDUB's top-five finishers in the mile was junior Olivia Syftestad with a PR time of 5:11.45. The personal record earned Syftestad a fourth-place finish to cap a strong effort by the Revolutionaries in the mile. In her event debut, first-year Julia Shanes finished seventh with a 5:27.58, while fellow first-year Lola Dinneen notched tenth with a 5:37.65.
In the 60m dash, graduate Rachel Horowitz led the way with a fourth-place finish. Horowitz tallied her best time of the day in the finals, finishing with an 8.01. Horowitz recorded an 8.03 in the semis and an 8.13 in the prelims in her only event of the day. Senior D'leela Saiyed notched a new PR in the 60m as well, finishing with an 8.84 in the prelim race.
In the 800m, sophomore Rita Mazumder led the way with a PR mark of 2:24.52. Mazumder finished sixth on the day in her lone event. First-year Emma Friedrich started her collegiate career on a good note, placing fifth in the 3000m with an event debut time of 11:05.86.
Saturday's event continues a slate of four meets between now and the end of February, culminating with the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championships hosted in Virginia Beach from Feb. 23-24. Live results of Saturday's event will be available online at GWsports.com.
