WASHINGTON -Â GW men's basketball redshirt freshman Garrett Johnson was tabbed by the Atlantic 10 as the conference's Rookie of the Week for a fourth time on Monday.
Johnson catapulted the Buff & Blue to an overtime victory on Saturday against Davidson, tying a career-high with 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including a 5-of-9 showing from beyond the arc. The Oakton, Va., native scored 13 points in the second half before canning the go-ahead 3-pointer in the first minute of overtime to put GW ahead for good.
The five 3-pointers marked the third time Johnson has hit five in a game this season as he continues to lead A-10 rookies with a 44.3% from beyond the arc on the year. He is one made three shy of qualifying for the national leaderboard, where he would rank among the top-20 overall.
Johnson is tied for second on the team in scoring at 14.8 ppg and ranks third with 6.3 rpg, one of just two freshmen in the nation to average at least 14.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg with the other being teammate Darren Buchanan Jr.
