Cross Country Races to Second at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams each tallied a second-place finish at the Navy Invitational on Saturday morning. Leading the way for the Revolutionaries were sophomore Sarah Mitchell, who tallied a sixth-place finish with a 6000m time of 22:17.87, and sophomore Austin Brotemarkle who also finished sixth with a 4.9 mile time of 25:11.90.

The Revolutionaries are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they compete in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
NOTEWORTHY
- The women's team finished second out of second out of 11 teams with a score of 50. Navy took home first place in their home meet with a score of 39.
- On the men's side, GW also brought home second place with a team score of 53. Navy tallied first place out of the eight-team field with a perfect score of 15.
- GW also had a team of men's runners compete in the 5000m open race. The Revolutionaries took home second place in the event with a score of 32. Two GW women's runners also competed in the 5000m open race but did not field enough runners to tally a team result.
- On the men's side, Brotemarkle's time of 25:11.90 marked a new personal record in the 4.9 mile, while senior Kevin Conlon also tallied a PR in the event with a time of 25:15.77.
- The Revolutionaries had eight men's runners make their event debuts between the 4.9 mile race and the 5000m open race, while the women saw six runners make their event debut between the two races.
- For the men, the second-place finish is their best at the Navy Invitational since the 2016 season, while the women earn their best mark at the event since 2015 when they tied for first.
