Water Polo Prepares for Three MAWPC Clashes this Week

WASHINGTON - After a 1-1 start in conference play last weekend, the George Washington water polo team is set for three more MAWPC battles this week. The Revolutionaries will travel to Annapolis, Md. for a match against Navy on Thursday (7 p.m.), before hosting Johns Hopkins at Long Bridge Park on Friday (7 p.m.) and Fordham at the Smith Center on Saturday (10 a.m.). Thursday's and Saturday's games will be streamed and links can be found on the schedule page.
WELCOME BACK ALUMNI
The men's water polo 40th year anniversary celebration will be hosted at the Smith Center this weekend. GW welcomes back alumni of the program to Foggy Bottom to attend this weekend's home games, participate in the alumni match and attend both the all alumni-athlete reception and the water polo 40th year anniversary celebration dinner.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Navy has started the season at 10-3, including 1-1 in the MAWPC, and was ranked 19th in the most recent CWPA Top 20. The Midshipmen have ranked wins over No. 9 Long Beach State, No. 19 Santa Clara and No. 20 Air Force, while their losses have come to No. 1 California, No. 11 UC San Diego and Wagner.
First-year Kiefer Black leads Navy in goals (21) and assists (30) this season, while senior Caden Capobianco has seen the lion's share of work in net for the Midshipmen and has a .510 save percentage.
Johns Hopkins is 1-9 this season, including 0-4 in conference play, and has not played since falling to GW, 20-14, on Sunday.
Owen Bartlett has paced the Blue Jays with 33 points through 10 games, four of which came against the Revolutionaries on Sunday. Gavin Brooke is second on Johns Hopkins with 30 points this season and had a game-high five points against GW.
Fordham was ranked 18th in the most recent MAWPC poll after starting the season at 8-3 and 4-0 in conference. Fordham has played against Bucknell, Johns Hopkins, Wagner and Mount St. Mary's out of the MAWPC, winning all four games by an average of almost nine goals per game.
The Rams are currently riding a 22-game MAWPC win streak, which dates back to November of 2021.
LOOKING AHEAD
MAWPC action continues on Saturday, Oct. 7, when GW visits Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. for an 11 a.m. game, before traveling to Emmitsburg, Md. to face off against Mount St. Mary's at 7 p.m.
