Water Polo Set for Action at Navy Open

GW water polo hops back in the pool this weekend for five matches in Annapolis, Md., at the Navy Open. The Revolutionaries are set to take on No. 12 Princeton on Friday (6 p.m.), (RV) LIU (11 a.m.) and Iona (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday, before finishing on Sunday against Chapman (11 a.m.) and (RV) Air Force (5 p.m.).

The Revolutionaries are coming off a 2-2 opening weekend, in which the GW claimed wins over Biola and No. 3 (D-III) Redlands, while narrowly falling to No. 13 (T) UC Irvine and No. 16 Loyola Marymount. Following the weekend, junior utility Konstantinos Kapragkos was picked as the MAWPC's Player of the Week, as he led the Revolutionaries in points and steals.

GW faces Princeton for the Tigers' season opener Friday night. Princeton was picked to win the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) after claiming the championship last year over Harvard and reaching the NCAA Quarterfinal round, where the Tigers eventually lost to No. 2 UCLA. The last meeting between GW and Princeton resulted in a 15-6 Tigers' win.

LIU finished opening weekend at 3-1 which included a double-overtime win over MAWPC foe Wagner. The Sharks were picked to finish last in the NWPC after finishing last season at 5-26, including 0-10 in conference. GW is 3-0 all-time vs. LIU, which included 17-15 and 11-8 wins last season.

Iona enters the weekend at 0-4 after dropping games to three top-ranked opponents (No. 5 Fordham, No. 6 UC Davis, No. 11 Pacific) and falling in double-overtime to Gannon. The Gaels were picked to finish fourth in the NWPC after finishing 2025 at 8-18 with a 4-6 record in conference. GW last faced Iona in 2023 which resulted in a 10-6 win for GW.

Chapman is 0-2 entering the weekend after falling to both UC Irvine and Biola. The D-III squad was picked fifth of nine in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) preseason poll after finishing 2025 at 9-18 overall with a 4-8 record in the SCIAC. GW last played Chapman in 2023, beating the Panthers, 13-10.

Air Force comes into the weekend at 3-2, falling to both No. 17 Harvard and No. 20 Brown, while picking up wins vs. Connecticut College, LIU and MIT. Air Force was picked to finish last in the West Coast Conference (WCC) preseason poll, despite having senior utility Tom Leggett named to the Preseason All-WCC Team. The Falcons were 17-15 last season, including 0-6 vs. WCC opponents. GW is 2-7 all-time vs. Air Force, however GW emerged on top in the teams' most recent meeting in 2019, 20-16.
