WASHINGTON – GW women's soccer head coach Michelle Demko announced the addition of Brian Galvin to her staff on Wednesday.
Galvin arrives in Foggy Bottom after most recently serving in the collegiate ranks as the goalkeeper coach for the Barry University men's and women's soccer programs from 2016-19. The four-year stint marked Galvin's second time on staff for Barry after previously spending one season with the Buccaneers' men's team from 2012-13. On the men's side, Galvin helped lead the program to its first NCAA Division II National Championship in 2018. In recognition of their national title, Galvin and the rest of Barry's 2018 coaching staff was also voted the Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches. During Galvin's four years with the women's program, he helped lead the team to an overall record of 45-14-5 and captured a Sunshine State Conference Tournament title during the 2018 season. While under Galvin's guidance, the program also made two appearances in the NCAA Regional and captured two SSC regular season titles as well.
"I am thrilled to add Brian to our coaching staff," Demko said. "He brings a level of professionalism that will keep our program accountable to the details needed for success. Brian has contributed to winning at the national level and he understands what it takes to maintain success over time. I look forward to working with Brian and seeing the positive impact he will have on our program."
Prior to his second stint at Barry, Galvin spent three seasons with the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer program from 2013-15 and spent two years with Manhattan College's men's soccer team during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
"I'm excited to coach at such a prestigious institution and help raise our women's soccer program to the next level," Galvin said. "We have a great group of players who work hard and are primed for success this season and beyond."
Outside of college soccer, Galvin has also made an impact within the prep ranks as well. Galvin served as the Director of Coaching for Impact City FC South Florida and previously worked as the Director of Goalkeeping for the Columbus Crew Academy. While with Columbus Crew Academy, Galvin also served as Head Coach of the boys' varsity soccer program at the Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio.
Galvin played collegiate soccer at UNLV where he graduated in 2006 with a degree in history. He also holds an MBA from Florida Atlantic University. GW opens regular season play on Thursday, Aug. 17 when it hosts Delaware State. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
