WASHINGTON – GW women's basketball head coach Caroline McCombs has named Albert "Al" Lipscomb III the team's Director of Player Development.
"We're so excited to welcome Al to our coaching staff," said McCombs. "He has worked tirelessly along his journey, starting as scout team member, all the way to the role of director of video operations.
"He will be a tremendous asset on and off the court. His work ethic and desire to learn and grow will continue to elevate our program," said McCombs.
Lipscomb comes to George Washington from Georgetown, where he has served in multiple roles since 2017 with the Hoyas' women's basketball program. Since 2021, Lipscomb had been the Director of Video Operations as well as an Interim Assistant Coach. Lipscomb oversaw and coordinated all team video operations and developed scouting reports. Additionally, Lipscomb coordinated and conducted player development workouts for guards and post players.
"I would first like to thank Coach McCombs, Tanya Vogel and the rest of the GW women's basketball staff for the opportunity to be a part of this prominent program in a city that I have considered home for most of my life," said Lipscomb.
"Excited is an understatement for how it feels to represent the city of D.C. and build on to an amazing basketball culture here in the DMV," said Lipscomb.
A two-time graduate from Georgetown, Lipscomb earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government in 2019 and received his Master's of Professional Studies in Sports Industry Management as a Graduate Coaching Assistant in 2021.
Originally from Dallas, Texas, Lipscomb originally came to the District in 2015. During his undergraduate studies, Lipscomb was the head women's basketball team manager and worked closely with Georgetown's various intramural programs.
In addition to Lipscomb's player development role, Priscilla Santana has been named the team's strength and conditioning coach.
