Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Fordham

Season finale set for Sunday at 12 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW softball fell in both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Fordham. The Buff and Blue dropped Game One, 3-1, before being outscored 9-1 in Game Two.Â
GW 1, Fordham 3
Reese Torres picked up her 18th RBI of the season but it was the only run scored by the Buff and Blue in the opener as Fordham took Game One, 3-1.
GW was limited on the basepaths with just one hit and three walks, but had runners aboard in each of the first four innings. R. Torres converted for GW's only run of the game with a sac fly in the fourth inning.
Fordham also picked up its first run in the fourth inning, and later scored the game-winning run on a two-RBI double in the fifth inning.
Rose Cano recorded six strikeouts in the start and went five innings with three runs allowed. Emma Fales relieved Cano in the sixth inning and pitched two scoreless innings with only one baserunner allowed.
GW 1, Fordham 9Â
GW struck first in Game Two but was unable to keep up with the Rams' offense, as Fordham put up three runs in three different innings resulting in a 9-1 win.
GW was limited to two hit and left five runners aboard. Darbie Stancil drove in the lone run of the game for GW, coming on an RBI fielder's choice in the second inning.Â
Fordham wasn't down for long and took the lead with a three-run third inning, before opening its lead with another three runs in the fourth and shutting the door on GW with three runs in the sixth inning, enacting the run-rule after six complete innings. Â
Fales struck out five in the start, and just four of Fordham's runs went down as earned.Â
UP NEXT
GW returns to the GW Softball Field tomorrow for the series and season finale against the Rams. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
