Cano records 9 strikeouts
WASHINGTON - GW softball fell to Fordham, 2-1, in Sunday's season finale. The Buff and Blue end the season with a 17-28 record, including a 7-19 mark in A-10 play.
Rose Cano got the start for GW and was dealing despite the loss. Cano was one strikeout short of her career-high with nine punch outs, pushing her season total to 115 strikeouts - tied for the fifth most all-time from a GW rookie pitcher.
Both teams had just one hit through four innings today, and all three runs were scored in the sixth inning. Fordham scored twice on RBI singles in the top of the frame, before GW got one back in the bottom. The Buff and Blue threatened to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the 6th with the bases loaded, but only managed to touch home once.
Alena Ramirez picked up GW's RBI and Maggie Greco scored the run. Cano was the only GW batter to record multiple hits with her 2-for-3 afternoon at the plate.
GW held a 6-5 advantage in hits but left six runners on base.Â
