Women’s Rowing Set For NCAA Championships

WASHINGTON — After earning its first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., the George Washington women's rowing team learned its NCAA Championship future on Tuesday night in a live Selection Show on NCAA.com.
Fitting for the #1 team in the conference, GW heard its name called first on Tuesday, even if it was by virtue of the automatic qualifiers being read in alphabetical order. Following GW, other automatic qualifiers who earned a berth by winning their conference included: Gonzaga, Jacksonville, Michigan, Navy, Northeastern, Princeton, SMU, Stanford, Texas and Virginia.
Schools who earned an at-large berth were Brown, California, Duke, Indiana, Ohio St., Penn, Rutgers, USC, Syracuse, Washington and Yale to round out the 22-team field.
Helmed by A-10 Coach of the Year Marci Robles, GW begins racing for the NCAA title on Friday, May 26th, on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
The Varsity 8 boat will take part in Heat 4 in its opening race in Lane 6 against Navy, SMU, Penn, Yale and Indiana.
The 2V8 boat will in Lane 1 in Heat 3 of its first race, opposed by Virginia, Texas, Penn, Syracuse and Jacksonville.
The Varsity 4 also races in Heat 3 like the 2V8, and in Lane 6, like the V8, alongside boats from Navy, Michigan, Brown, Virginia and USC.
