Colonials wrap nine-game road stint in Baltimore
WASHINGTON - GW softball is back for four games this week, beginning on Wednesday with a trip to Baltimore for a rematch against Morgan State. First pitch at Lois T. Murray Field is set for 2 p.m.Â
DOUBLE VISION
First-year Ashley Corpuz still ranks in the top ten in the NCAA in doubles per game. The first-year added one double over the weekend at Loyola Chicago and currently ranks 10th in the NCAA and second in the A-10 in doubles per game (0.37). Corpuz is now just three doubles away from matching the GW rookie doubles record (16).Â
REMATCH WITH THE LADY BEARS
The Colonials and Lady Bears met once already this season, resulting in a 6-2 Buff and Blue win at the GW Softball Field on March 15. The Colonials went down early in the game with a two-run Lady Bears' double in the first inning, but battled back the rest of the way and put up six-unanswered runs to take the 6-2 win.Â
Alena Ramirez led the way offensively for GW with three RBI. Rose Cano picked up the win, allowing just two runs on six hits.
SCOUTING MORGAN STATE
The Lady Bears enter Wednesday's contest with a 21-17 record, including an impressive 11-3 mark in MEAC competition. The Lady Bears are just 1-4 in their last five games but are coming off a 17-0 victory over conference foe UMES.Â
Victoria Fletcher continues to pace the Morgan State offense. Fletcher sports a .360 batting average, .400 on-base percentage and has a team-high seven home runs.
Two pitchers for the Lady Bears have ERAs near two - Anaya Hunte (2.10) and Fletcher (2.12). Hunte has seen the majority of the work this season and is 13-6 on the year, while Fletcher has gotten the second-most work and has a 7-3 record.
