Reese Torres powers team-leading fifth home run of the season

CHICAGO - Sunday's series finale was a rematch between Game One starting pitchers Rose Cano and Peyton Pepkowski, and despite the Colonials finding more success at the plate in the second go-around against the Ramblers' ace, GW fell 7-2.

The hit count this afternoon was even at seven hits apiece, but Loyola stayed patient at the plate and drew 10 free bases in the contest. The Ramblers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after converting twice on a bases-loaded opportunity in the first inning and led for the remainder of the game.

GW cut into the lead in the second inning with Reese Torres' second home run and third RBI of the series. The first-year lefty batter jumped all over the first pitch of the at-bat and pulled the ball comfortably over the right-field fence for her team-high fifth home run of the season.

The weather played a role this afternoon. The game started an hour before scheduled and was played through a steady downpour, which included a short rain delay in the bottom of the fifth inning.

GW's offense found a spark after the rain delay, as Cano powered a double into right field on the first pitch of the sixth inning, and Ashley Corpuz brought her home on the next pitch with an RBI triple. The Ramblers were able to limit the damage to one though as Pepkowski fanned the next two batters and forced a lineout for the third out.

UP NEXT
GW will travel to Baltimore for a mid-week matchup against Morgan State on Wednesday. Then next weekend, the Colonials return home to host St. Bonaventure for a three-game set. Next weekend's series includes Alumnae Day on Saturday and Senior Day on Sunday.
