Softball Faces George Mason in Revolutionary Rivalry Doubleheader, Loyola Chicago in Inaugural Series Between Programs

Colonials Battle Patriots on Wednesday before traveling to Chicago for weekend series against Ramblers
WASHINGTON - Fresh off its 2-1 series win over Saint Joseph's, GW softball will look to add on to its A-10 win total this week with five games against conference opponents. On Wednesday, the Buff and Blue will square off against George Mason in a Revolutionary Rivalry Doubleheader at the George Mason Softball Complex (2 & 4:30 p.m.). Then over the weekend, GW meets with A-10 newcomer Loyola Chicago for the first-ever meeting between the programs (1 & 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, 1 p.m. ET on Sunday). All five games this week will be available on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
GW won its last series at Saint Joseph's, two games to one. The Colonials dropped a tight series opener, 2-0, before going off for 16 runs over the next two games and winning Game Two, 6-3, and Game Three, 10-5. Â
Emma Fales picked up her third save of the year and Rose Cano got win No. 11 in Friday's Game Two victory, while Lily Hanafin got the win in Saturday's series finale, her first victory at GW.
Abby Schaub and Maggie Greco led GW's efforts at the plate. Schaub went 4-10 with three doubles, four RBI and one run scored, while Greco was 4-9 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored.
REVOLUTIONARY RIVALRY RENEWED
Wednesday's doubleheader will be the 41st and 42nd meetings between GW and George Mason. GW leads the all-time series, 23-17, including a 2-1 series win last season in Chrissy Schoonmaker's first look at the Patriots.Â
George Mason is 22-15 and 8-4 in the A-10 entering Wednesday's doubleheader. The Patriots have won all four of its conference series, two games to one.
On offense, the Patriots to look out for on Wednesday include Elyssa DeRosa, who holds team-highs with a .400 batting average and 1.177 OPS, Haley Taormina, who is the team leader with five home runs and 34 RBI, and Rachel Warrens who has an A-10 best 24 stolen bases.Â
Aly Rayle and Jordan Tallman have been George Mason's go-to options in the circle. Rayle is 10-5 with a 2.50 ERA, while Tallman is 4-3 with a 2.30 ERA.
RAMBLERS ON DECKÂ
This weekend's series against the Ramblers will be the first-ever meeting between GW and Loyola Chicago.Â
Loyola Chicago is 14-18 and 8-4 in the A-10 this season. The Ramblers will face off against the University of Illinois Chicago on Wednesday before hosting GW over the weekend.
Amelia Thomas has many of the Ramblers' top hitting numbers, including a .344 batting average, .417 OBP and .922 OPS. Sydney Barnett is another name to look out for - she is second on the team with a .312 batting average and holds team-highs with eight doubles and 18 RBI.Â
Andie Broniewicz and Peyton Pepkowsk have combined for 27 of the Ramblers' 32 starts this year. Broniewicz is 5-7 with a 2.65 ERA, while Pepkowski is 8-8 with a 2.83 ERA.Â
