WASHINGTON – The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams look to contend for conference crowns this week when they compete in the A-10 Championships. The event, hosted by the University of Dayton, has a scheduled start time of 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.
LAST TIME OUT
Two weeks ago, the Buff & Blue competed in the XC23 Pre-Nationals hosted by the University of Virginia. The race is a precursor to the NCAA Cross Country Championships which will be held at the same location on Saturday, Nov. 18. The event gave teams from across the country the opportunity to preview the course before the championship race later this year.
On the men's side, GW finished third out of 11 teams in the Orange 8K race. GW finished with a team score of 113, while UMass Lowell won the team crown with a total of 49 points. The Revolutionaries were paced by senior Kevin Conlon who tallied a time of 24:21.3. The mark was a new PR for Conlon and was also the second-fastest 8K time in program history. Conlon's time headlined a list of seven men's runners who set new PRs at the event.
The women's team clocked an eighth-place finish out of 15 teams in the Orange 6K race. GW was led by sophomore Sarah Mitchell who tallied a time of 21:03.1 to set a new PR. Mitchell's time is the seventh-fastest in program history and earned her a ninth-place finish as an individual at the event. In total, four women's runners set new PRs at the event, giving GW a total of 182 points. Kansas State took home the team title with a score of 116.
