NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The George Washington men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been picked to finish first in both the men's and women's early-season A-10 polls, the conference announced on Wednesday. It is the second-straight season that both teams have been unanimously selected to win the conference as GW is going for its third sweep of the A-10 titles in as many years.
In the polls, the women's squad earned the maximum 121 points via all 11 first-place votes, while the men also earned the maximum 64 points from all eight first-place votes. Rounding out the women's top five were Richmond (109), Duquesne (96), Fordham (76) and George Mason (73), while George Mason (48), Davidson (45), UMass (43) and St. Bonaventure (33) filled in the men's top five.
The Revolutionaries, led by back-to-back A-10 Men's and Women's Coach of the Year Brian Thomas, have brought a wealth of experience back from last season's championship teams, which includes two NCAA qualifiers in Djurdje Matic and Julia Knox and ten individual A-10 Champions from 2023: Matic, Karol Mlynarczyk and Connor Rodgers on the men's team, along with Knox, Moriah Freitas, Marlee Rickert, Barbara Schaal, Molly Smyers, Ava Topolewski and Phoebe Wright from the women's squad.
The Buff and Blue's quest for a sweep three-peat continues on Saturday, Nov. 4 when GW travels to Pittsburgh to face Pitt in a dual meet.
