Bishop IV, Edwards Nab A-10 Weekly Honors

Duo named Co-Player and Rookie of the Week following two standout wins
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Following a pair of impressive victories last week at George Mason and vs. Dayton, GW men's basketball racked up the weekly awards from the Atlantic 10, it was announced on Monday. Senior James Bishop IV was named the A-10 co-Player of the Week for the second time this season and redshirt freshman Maximus Edwards repeated as A-10 Rookie of the Week, his third overall weekly accolade.
Bishop staked his claim as an early frontrunner for A-10 Player of the Year with his showings against the Patriots and Flyers. The conference's leading scorer, now sixth in the country at 21.9 ppg, averaged 23.0 ppg, 7.5 apg and 3.5 rpg while shooting 45% from the field and 71% from the free throw line in GW's two wins.
Bishop scored 19 points on Monday at George Mason, taking over the game in the middle stages of the second half. He also tied a season-best with eight assists. He followed that up with a trademark display vs. Dayton, scoring 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting in addition to dishing out seven helpers, many of which were of the highlight-reel variety.
Beyond his scoring prowess, the Baltimore native is now second in the A-10, and 27th nationally, with 101 assists in 19 games this year. His 5.3 apg ranks 25th in the country and third in the league. Bishop has averaged 6.3 apg in A-10 play with a dazzling 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Edwards repeats as A-10 Rookie of the Week and in the process, becomes the first Colonial to earn three A-10 Rookie of the Week awards since Lasan Kromah in 2009-10. In GW's two wins, Edwards averaged 14.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and shot 50% from the floor and beyond the arc in addition to a perfect 3-of-3 showing at the line.
The Stratford, Conn., native scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with six boards in GW's victory over Mason on Monday, canning a trio of 3-pointers along the way. He then led the charge with 13 of his 15 points vs. Dayton coming in the first half on Saturday, once again matching a career-best with three made triples.
Edwards is now the lone A-10 rookie averaging double figures this season, posting 10.7 ppg. He has increased his output to 12.2 ppg in conference play, reaching double figures in three straight contests. He also remains the A-10's top rebounding freshman guard (second among all freshmen) with 5.7 per game.
