TAMPA, Fla. -Â George Washington pitcher and alumnus Harrison Cohen has signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees, the former Colonial confirmed Monday.
Cohen, who grew up a die-hard Yankees fan in Syosset, N.Y., now gets the chance to join his hometown organization after putting pen to paper on Sunday night at the Yankees' spring training complex in Tampa.
A five-year member of the GW baseball program, Cohen capped off his final season in Buff & Blue by being named to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team. GW's Friday night starter ended the year with seven wins, including four in A-10 play, while pitching to a 3.92 ERA. Cohen ended the year ranked in the top-10 in five conference pitching categories, including ranking first in innings pitched (87.1) and second in strikeouts (93).
Additionally, Cohen ends his GW career ranked 18th in program history in strikeouts (201) and 19th in wins (14).
Cohen is now the second member of the GW baseball team to ink a professional contract this year. His teammate, Cade Fergus, was drafted and signed by the Philadelphia Phillies during July's MLB Draft.
