Chambliss and Munnelly to lead reigning EAGL Champions
WASHINGTON – Deja Chambliss and Hannah Munnelly of GW gymnastics have been voted to serve as team captains for the 2022-23 season, Head Coach Margie Foster-Cunningham has announced.
It will be Chambliss' second season as a team captain after the graduate student announced her return for one final season. Munnelly, a senior from Annapolis, Md., will help lead the 2022 EAGL Champions for her last season in Buff & Blue.
Chambliss and Munnelly helped last season's team to its first EAGL crown since 2017. Both gymnasts were selected to this year's All-EAGL Scholastic Team.
Chambliss capped the memorable season as the EAGL Gymnast of the Year and won a pair of event titles at the Championship. Chambliss was also selected to three All-EAGL teams after leading the conference on vault and floor. In addition, Chambliss advanced to the NCAA Raleigh Regional in the all-around.
Munnelly competed on vault in all but three meets for GW this season, earning a career-high 9.825 in the team's final regular season meet at Maryland. The rising senior also set a personal best on the uneven bars at Maryland, registering a 9.850. Munnelly competed in both events at EAGL Championships on March 19, posting a 9.700 on vault and a 9.800 on bars.
The co-captains will lead a team that features ten returners and six newcomers. Â
