Student-Athletes Shine in Academic Progress Rate Report
6/14/2022 2:02:00 PM | Men's Golf, Women's Track/Cross Country, Water Polo
By the recommendation of the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics, the NCAA national office publicly released today Academic Progress Rates for the most current multiyear cohort (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21), after a one-year hiatus in 2021.
In the report, it was identified that five of GW's teams achieved perfection. Women's cross country, golf, women's indoor track, women's outdoor track and water polo notched perfect 1,000 multiyear rates.
"In a year in which we celebrated our teams winning the most-ever postseason conference championships in the history of GW Athletics, we always remain mindful that the student in student-athlete comes first," said Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. "Our students, coaches and staff recognize that GW offers a dynamic blend of the opportunity to learn at an international university in a world-class city while competing at the highest levels. We're proud to see them thriving in this environment through their determination and commitment to excellence."
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I athletics teams across the country. It provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Today's announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
