2V8 wins gold medal, Buff & Blue set program record for points
PENNSAUKEN, N.J. -Â Buoyed by a gold-medal performance from the Second Varsity 8, GW women's rowing earned its third straight second-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship held Saturday on the Cooper River.
GW finished the day with a new program-record 50 points, surpassing the previous record of 48 points set in 2019. The Buff & Blue also medaled in each of the scoring events for the fifth straight championship.
By virtue of its wins in the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4, Rhode Island earned its fourth consecutive A-10 Championship with 52 points. GW placed second ahead of Massachusetts (37), Fordham (34), Saint Joseph's (33), Dayton (24), Duquesne (19), La Salle (13) and George Mason (5).
The day's highlight came via the Second Varsity 8, which earned GW's first gold medal in a scoring event in nine years. After posting the fastest time in the prelims (7:13.149), the Buff & Blue ran away with the Grand Final in a time of 7:08.342, topping Rhode Island by nearly nine seconds.
