Student-Athletes Take Center Stage in University’s First Commencement of 2022
5/11/2022 1:15:00 PM | Baseball, Softball, Women's Rowing
In front of a packed Betts Theatre in The George Washington University's student center on Tuesday afternoon, graduating members of the baseball, women's rowing and softball teams had their degrees officially conferred by university President Mark S. Wrighton. The degree recipients were feted early because of their athletics competitions scheduled for this weekend, with women's rowing and softball both pursuing A-10 Championships while baseball is playing its penultimate series of the regular season.
Provost Christopher Bracey also gave remarks of congratulations to the Class of 2022, while SAAC President and women's rowing team member Lauren Bennett gave the student address. Bennett's charge to her fellow graduates was to defy the advice once given to her: "Don't get your hopes up."
Notably for the graduates, the ceremony also marked the first Commencement exercises for President Wrighton and Provost Bracey in their tenures at GW.
