GW to host Dukes at 1 p.m. on Saturday
WASHINGTON – GW women's tennis will finish its regular season when it hosts Duquesne for Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
CELEBRATING THE SENIORS
Before first serve, GW will recognize seniors Katarina Marinkovikj and Alexandra Vesikallio, who will be graduating this May.
Marinkovikj, a native of Skopje, Macedonia, has made a significant impact on the GW women's tennis program since arriving in 2019. Marinkovikj was named A-10 Rookie of the Week twice during her first season, earned a spot on the 2019 A-10 All-Conference Second Team and claimed the 2019 Bedford Cup doubles title.
Vesikallio has consistently been among GW's top-three singles flights since 2020. Vesikallio is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and a 2021 ITA Regionals selection.
LAST TIME OUT
The Buff & Blue improved to 4-3 in conference play after victories over George Mason and Saint Joseph's last weekend. Marinkovikj and Stella Wiesemann went undefeated in singles play to help GW to the 2-0 weekend, and Vesikallio and Lindsay Thompson also picked up singles wins. The Buff & Blue swept all six of their doubles matches, including three-straight 6-2 triumphs en route to its 4-0 victory at Saint Joseph's.
ABOUT DUQUESNE
The Dukes are 10-8 overall and 2-1 in A-10 play and own a four-match win streak. Daniela Latoni leads the Dukes with a 13-4 singles record.
POSTSEASON PLAY
Following Saturday's regular-season finale, GW will await its final conference standing before heading to Orlando, Fla., for the Atlantic 10 Championship on April 27-30.
