Bystrom & Doak debuted at regional qualifying meet
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - GW divers Jamie Doak and Spencer Bystrom opened competition at the NCAA Zone A Championships on Monday afternoon at Lejeune Hall.
Facing a field of the region's best divers, Doak finished 36th out of 79 competitors on the 1-meter board with a score of 240.60.
"Jamie put together an incredibly consistent list," Head Diving Coach Christopher Lane said. "Since the beginning of the year, we have worked really hard on consistency, and I am really happy with Jamie's performance over the course of a four-hour meet like that."
Bystrom posted a 3-meter score of 264.05 to finish 32nd out of 44 distinguished competitors. The top highlight for the junior from Beachwood, Ohio, was a Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck that earned 57.40 points.
"That's a new dive in Spencer's list this year, and it was really fun to watch him nail it in the biggest meet of the year," Lane said.
It's the first trip to the NCAA Zone meet for Doak and Bystrom. Both Buff and Blue divers clinched their place at this competition during the regular season before doing their part to help the program sweep the team titles at last month's Atlantic 10 Championships.
The pair will be back in action on Tuesday with Doak on 3-meter and Bystrom on 1-meter to conclude their stay at the NCAA qualifying meet. Live results can be found here.
