Buff & Blue set conference record in 200 medley relay
GENEVA, Ohio - GW men's swimming and diving rolled to gold in both relays on Wednesday night at SPIRE Institute to open its latest title push at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Seeking a repeat title and fifth conference crown in six years, the Buff and Blue have the maximum 80 points with three days left to go, leading St. Bonaventure (64 points), Davidson (60) and UMass (56) in the team standings.
GW got off to a flying start in the meet's first event with Marek Osina, Tyler Kawakami, Durde Matic and Karol Mlynarczyk claiming victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:25.78 that shaved more than a second off their own conference record set earlier this season and eclipsed the pool mark as well.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Osina claimed gold again, this time teaming with Josh Legge, Connor Rodgers and Ethan Tulenko to finish in 6:31.72, 2.69 seconds clear of second-place St. Bonaventure.
A senior from Kromeriz, Czech Republic, Osina swam strong leadoff legs in both races, paving the way for wire-to-wire victories.
UP NEXT: The individual swimming events begin Thursday at the A-10 meet. Preliminary racing begins at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 6:30 p.m.
