Colonials welcome Johns Hopkins Friday, Fordham Saturday on Senior Day
WASHINGTON - No. 19 GW water polo will bring the regular season to a close this weekend with two conference matchups. On Friday, GW faces off with Johns Hopkins at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, VA (7:30 p.m.). Then on Saturday, the Colonials host No. 18 Fordham (12 p.m.) at the Smith Center. Both games will be aired live on the GW Water Polo Facebook page.
Last Time Out:Â
GW is coming off another successful weekend of MAWPC action with wins over Navy, Johns Hopkins and Mount St. Mary's. The Colonials began the weekend on Saturday by capturing a 12-11 overtime win over Navy, and followed that up with a dominant performance in a 23-8 win over Johns Hopkins. The Buff and Blue then returned home on Sunday and downed Mount St. Mary's in a 13-12 thriller at the Smith Center.
Senior Send-Off:Â
Eight seniors and graduate students will be recognized at Saturday's match against Fordham. Seniors Bender Russo and Antonin Kralj, along with graduate students DJ Davis, Nick Schroeder, Henry Maas, Theodoros Pateros, Finn Lillis and Michael Wheeler will be honored in a pregame ceremony at the Smith Center.
MAWPC Update:Â
With just two games remaining in the regular season, GW is sitting comfortably in second place. The Buff and Blue have already clinched a first-round bye in the MAWPC Championship, and they will look to improve on their seeding in the final weekend of action.
Rematch with Johns Hopkins:
Johns Hopkins (10-19, 2-11) has not played since falling to GW last weekend. The Blue Jays, who were coming off the CWPA D-III National Championship, dropped both of its games last weekend, losing narrowly to Navy before falling to GW.Â
The Colonials found success early in its last meeting against Johns Hopkins and will be looking for a repeat of the performance on Friday night at Long Bridge Park.
Red Hot Rams:
No. 18 Fordham (20-6, 13-0) is coming into Saturday afternoon's contest riding a 12-game win streak, which dates back to late September. Since taking down the Colonials on October 15, Fordham has won five games by a combined score of 93-46. A chance at the top seed in the MAWPC Championship will be on the line in Saturday's matchup with the Rams, though Fordham still has regular season matchups remaining against Navy, Johns Hopkins, and No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn College. Â
