Pair honored after helping Buff & Blue win conference title
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After playing instrumental roles in helping GW men's swimming and diving celebrate a conference title, Marek Osina and Emils Pone have been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.
Osina and Pone both tallied six total medals, including five golds apiece, in helping the Buff and Blue secure their fourth A-10 title in five years back in April.
Pone was named to the All-Academic list for the third time in his decorated career, while Osina, a transfer via East Carolina, was honored after his first season with the program.
It's the 11th consecutive season that GW has landed multiple All-Academic honorees.
Pone closed out his fantastic run in Buff and Blue with a sensational A-10 meet, highlighted by conference-record swims in the 200 fly (1:45.19) and 400 IM (3:46.32). In adding six conference medals to his collection, the Jurmala, Latvia, native finished his collegiate career with 15 total A-10 medals to help the program win its first four conference team titles.
Named the GW Athletics J. Dallas Shirley Outstanding Senior Male Student-Athlete, Pone earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Finance while in Foggy Bottom and finished with a 3.88 cumulative GPA.
