Sophomore hit .476 over last five games
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -Â GW baseball shortstop Steve DiTomaso was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday, after hitting .476 in the Buff & Blue's five games last week.
The sophomore from Haddonfield, N.J., earned his second award of the year after being named the league's Player of the Week on March 29. He is eligible for the rookie award as he is a first-year athletically following last year's shortened season.
DiTomaso was 10-for-21 at the plate last week, recording a slash line of .476/.542/.667. He hit safely in all five games, including four multi-hit affairs, in addition to scoring three runs and driving in seven.Â
After a three-hit day with two RBI to open his week, DiTomaso notched two hits in the first three games of the series against Saint Louis. The breakout game came in the back end of Saturday's doubleheader when he drove in a career-high five, thanks, in part, to a three-run triple.
DiTomaso currently possesses the longest active on-base streak (14 games) and hitting streak (5) on the team. His .367 season average is a point off the team lead and fourth-best in the Atlantic 10. He also ranks third on the team in hits (36) and runs (22), and he's tops in triples after recording his third of the year on Saturday.
DiTomaso and the Colonials, who sit at 8-4 through three weekends of league play, return to action on Friday, opening up a four-game series at George Mason.
