Colonials return to Pole Green Park with title hopes
WASHINGTON - GW cross country is set to take part in the Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. The women will start things off with the 5k race at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8k at 1 p.m.
ABOUT LAST YEAR: Thanks to three all-conference performances, the GW women recorded the best finish in program history last year, placing second at the conference meet. Of those three, Margaret Coogan returns after placing fifth a year ago. On the men's side, James Glockenmeier was the third-fastest freshman at the race, finishing 25th overall.
CLIMBING ON UP: The women's program enters Saturday with its highest regional ranking ever, coming in at No. 6 in this week's Mid-Atlantic region poll. GW is also the highest-ranked A-10 team in the region. The men also made their debut this week, ranking 15th in the region. It's the squad's first appearance since being ranked 12th in week three last year.
RECORD TIME: GW returns to Pole Green Park for the third time this season and after a great showing just two weeks ago. Senior Margaret Coogan recorded the second-fastest 5k time in program history at 17:26.5 while classmate Kathryn Nohilly (seventh) and graduate student Peri Pavicic (ninth) posted the seventh- and ninth-fastest times, respectively.
