
Quartet of Swimmers Wrap Junior Nationals

Buff & Blue rookies gained experience on national stage
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bode Ringenbach led the way for GW swimming and diving over three days at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships, highlighted by a 10th-place showing on the national stage in the 400 IM at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Swimming in his home state of North Carolina, the Buff and Blue rookie placed second in the B final on Friday evening in an NCAA B-cut time of 3:51.27 that was a personal best and ranks third in program history in the event. He also clocked an all-time top 10 time in the 200 fly (1:49.68) and finished among the top 30 in both the 200 IM (1:50.30) and 200 breast (2:02.18).
Facing off against the nation's top juniors, Julia Knox qualified for the C final of the 200 breast on Saturday with a time of 2:17.82 that ranks fourth in program history before placing 23rd. The rookie from Craigavon, Northern Ireland, recorded a swim in the 400 IM of 4:23.79 that was a personal best to move up one spot to No. 6 on the program's all-time list, and she posted a strong effort in the 200 IM to finish in 2:02.91, as well.
Rounding out the GW quartet, Molly Smyers posted a season-best time in the 100 back (:59.34) and also competed in the 200 IM (2:06.86) and 100 fly (:57.68), while Philip Moldovanu took part in the 500 free (4:37.76) and 200 free (1:44.68).
Those four swimmers and the rest of the Buff and Blue now head into winter break, before returning to competition on Jan. 22, 2022, with a dual meet at Georgetown.
